Our Story

A2Z Microbiology was formed when working together leading the QC Microbiology team for a CMO biologics manufacturing facility. The experience highlighted the need for upskilling of Microbiologists in the industry and specialist knowledge development to support the rapidly changing horizon.

In addition, we had a strong drive to give back to the industry that had developed our careers in a way that uplifted and focused on the skill of Microbiology across multiple sectors.

We are passionate about the science of Microbiology and look forward to sharing that passion with you and your team.

The Team

Tammy Hassel

An experienced, compliance-driven quality professional, microbiologist and MBA with over 14 plus years of progressive experience and a proven record of significant and successful contribution in Pharmaceutical Quality Management Systems.

I bring a unique skill set having managed a startup serving the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and managed multiple Quality function teams bringing a balanced strategic perspective with the quality risk awareness necessary to drive cGMP organisations forward.

My experience includes; having set up, managed and implemented lean lab solutions for global sites of excellence in QC Microbiology, managing Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams and responsibility for the creation of the site quality systems in line with cGMP.  I have sat on the executive committee managing a multi-million-pound budget and have been responsible for the leading of regulatory audits.

I am passionate about setting up engaged teams through a focus on personal and technical development and mentoring to ensure a cohesive, dedicated and productive Quality group. I joined the PHSS as a member of the management committee to provide a platform from which I can continue to give back to the industry and to maintain involvement at the forefront of regulatory developments.

  • Took an idea and developed a multi-skilled team, to bring from proof of concept to product realisation within the Pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
  • Responsible for the Quality elements of the design, build and validation of a new multimillion-pound cleanroom facility.

A self-motivated microbiologist with 12+ years of industry experience. Recognized for effective and change-championed implementation of the lean lab and highly productive systems. Solid background within the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with an impassioned drive to implement safe and efficient methodologies for businesses and operators alike.

A direct, fair and big-hearted leader with the ability to energize a team of skilled professionals to provide excellent and accurate testing service of cosmetic, pharmaceutical product and water samples, to cGMP, cGLP and pharmacopoeia methods – with USP, EP, JP, Turkish, Korean and Russian Regulation exposure.

I will provide a shot of espresso to any environment and derive great satisfaction from focusing my energy on building an excellent team. Always looking for quality improvement and promoting a safe, empowering and positive work environment.

  • Responsible for the setting up of the CMO Microbiology laboratories from scratch to meet regulatory expectations. Development of efficient and dynamic systems capable to adjust to the demanding standards of the pharmaceutical industry.  
  • Managed teams above 20 microbiologists in providing excellent customer service to the highest quality standards in a fast-paced, CMO setting, working with annual revenue targets for the laboratory of £4.8 million.
  • Known for capabilities in reducing resource requirement and improving throughput .
  • Served as a pharmaceutical microbiology subject matter expert providing guidance and direction for laboratory procedures.
  • Management skills as demonstrated in the coordination of different assigned tasks and special projects in both flat matrix and hierarchical team settings in fast-paced environments.
